The Amanda Cook Band

Sunday, June 30, 1:30 pm   $25

“Amanda Cook has emerged as one of the most dynamic female bluegrass vocalists and band-leaders of today.”  Bluegrass Situation

Fresh from their appearance June 29 at Jenny Brook Festival in Vermont. This was to be a GuitartownCT show , but has morphed into a house concert, to be held in New Haven, CT. It's a fantastic spot, seating about 50 people, with plenty of street parking, and free refreshments!

While I take time off from presenting concerts, I'm doing more podcast interviews. There are fifteen now recorded.

The most recent is with guitarist Clay Hess. Clay replaced Bryan Sutton in Ricky Skaggs' Kentucky Thunder, and went on to play with Sierra Hull and Mountain Heart. He has a lot to say about Tony Rice, the state of bluegrass, and the importance of emotion in both playing and singing. A

fascinating chat.

Episodes to date:

Bronwyn Keith-Hynes, Missy Raines, Phil Rosenthal, Doyle Lawson, Justin Moses, Todd Phillips, Rhonda Vincent, Luke Bulla, Mark Schatz, Jason Carter, Rob Ickes, David Grier, John Reischman, Mike Compton, Clay Hess

Coming up the last week of June are conversations with two talented young bluegrass artists, Caroline Owens, and Amanda Cook. In early July I will be interviewing Tim O'Brien and Dan Tyminski. The fun goes on!

GuitartowCT bluegrass jam Sunday, July 21 from 3:00 - 5:30, at Best Video in Hamden. I'll start this one with a free workshop. Plenty of bluegrass for players of all levels, along with the usual mirth and merriment!

If you'd like to add some new tips or twists to your guitar technique, email me. I can help you out, or if you want to learn from a superstar like Trey Hensley or Bryan Sutton that's easy too.
